In Japanese, Natsumeku means "to become summerly" and this design was inspired by the joys of a Nikkei summer celebrating Obon, Japanese summer foods, and community.

THE DARUMA IN LITTLE TOKYO
The Daruma, an angry looking little red trinket that is so iconic to Japanese culture has a long history that stems from a Buddhist Monk, called the Bodhidharma representing luck, fortune and perseverence. Combined with the story of Little Tokyo, one of the 3 remaining J-towns in America, these stories are both symbolic and represents the well wishes of the Nikkei community.

The UC San Diego College system is like no other and has distinct colleges that have their own pride and personalities. Designed for each college: Revelle, Muir, Marshall, Warren, ERC, Sixth, & Seventh College.
NIKKEI STUDENT UNION 35TH ANNIVERSARY
Nikkei Student Union, a Japanese American social and cultural club celebrated their 35th anniversary. Inspired by modern and traditional elements, this design carries both elements of Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arranging Art) and streetwear fashion.

Every year, Nikkei Student Union hosts a sweater design contest and this design was choosen. The Design was inspired by Edo period Japanese art and combined with popular modern Asian-American pop influences like boba.
